I am guided by emotion, inspired by the beauty, and peacefulness of nature. My goal is to infuse these sources of inspiration into every Print I create.

Meet the Photographer

Hello! I'm Walter Mather, and welcome to Mather Fine Art. I'm glad you're here! To introduce myself, I’m a husband and father, an explorer at heart, and a lover of the wild.

Growing up in New England, my happiest childhood memories are from our family’s cabin. This lakeside cabin fostered a deep appreciation for wildlife—deer, black bears, snapping turtles, and more. Armed with my Aunt Avis's Polaroid camera, I captured the beauty around me.

My first visit to Yellowstone in my early 20s solidified my purpose in life. Witnessing grizzly bears, bison, and wolves ignited my passion for wildlife photography. After moving to Jackson Hole, I refined my skills and showcased my work at high-end art shows across the western U.S.

After three rewarding years of travel and two children later, I transitioned to cinematography, seizing an incredible opportunity with a National Geographic television show. This dream role led me to become a Director of Photography for adventure-based reality television, contributing to shows like Ultimate Survival Alaska, Human, live free or Die and many more.

A life-altering experience in the field prompted me to rethink my path, driving me back to fine art photography. In 2019, I blended my love for cinematography and nature photography into my YouTube series “Image Stories,” where I share the tales behind my images.

I hope you enjoy Mather Fine Art, featuring my photography and can join me @ www.imagestories.tv to exploring our beautiful wild lands in search of new fine art prints.

With gratitude,

Walter
